About Unit

53rd Reconnaissance Battalion is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

It was formed in 2022 as the 53rd Rifle Battalion in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and it was later assigned to support the 116th Mechanized Brigade.

In August 2025, it was reformed into a separate reconnaissance battalion.
