About Unit

40th Motorized Battalion was a separate unit of the Ground Forces of Ukraine. The battalion was formed in May 2014 as 19th Battalion of Territorial Defense from the residents of Kryvyi Rih. In November 2014, the unit was reformatted into a motorized battalion under the command of 17th Tank Brigade.In 2015, the battalion was disbanded by order of the Ukrainian General Staff and accused of abandoning its positions during the battle of Debaltseve, which contributed to the town’s encirclement. The soldiers of the battalion denied these accusations.
