2nd Mechanized Battalion

2nd Mechanized Battalion is a linear unit of the 3rd Assault Brigade.

The battalion was built on the basis of volunteers from the Azov SSO Sumy branch of the Azov Special Operations Regiment, spread out heavily amongst the battalion, as well as other veterans who had participated in the war in Donbas or had joined since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

Since the founding of the unit, the members who make up this battalion have been known to be extremely committed to Ukrainian nationalism and Ukrainian traditions, embracing their history and culture in the face of the enemy. This includes many members from the Centuria Movement, a political organization that embraces Ukrainian nationalism and patriotism, particularly the Uzhorod Branch of the Centuria Movement.

In July 2023, the commander of the 3rd Mechanized Company “Karakurt Colony”, known by the callsign “Var”, was promoted to the battalion’s commander.

The battalion has participated in many of the brigade’s high-profile battles, including the Battle of Avdiivka and its ongoing operations in Kharkiv and Luhansk Oblast’s. It participated in the liberation of Nadiya in March 2025.

Insignia

The insignia conforms to the traditions of the brigade with a pointed chevron. The top of the insignia uses NATO symbology denoting Mechanized Infantry – the role that the battalion is utilized in.
