Tymur Special Unit

Tymur Special Unit is a formation within the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine.

It was formed based on a company from the 10th Special Forces Detachment, named after its commander, known by the callsign “Tymur”. It acts as a grouping of several highly professional and elite formations within the branch, being made up of up to ten detachments in total.

Collectively, the unit is responsible for several areas of the frontline, with many units being grouped in several key locations since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Over time, it has accumulated more and more units into its ranks, helping to provide it with a better command structure.

Some of its key operations have been special operations behind the frontline, including Crimea, the southern counteroffensive in the Summer of 2023 aimed towards Melitopol, and other areas such as the defense of Bakhmut, Pokrovsk, and more.
