The unit began as resistance movement “South” formed from veterans of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army. It fought in Mykolaiv and Kherson Oblasts. After the liberation of Kherson parts of the unit were integrated in to the 28th mechanized brigade as a separate detachment. The detachment was then sent to the Donbas region.
