Reform of the 126th Brigade to a coastal unit

The Ukrainian command is continuing to restructure units responsible for defending southern Ukraine under the Marine Corps. The most recent example is the 126th Territorial Defense Brigade, which was established in 2022 in Odesa. On April 6, 2024, MilitaryLand reported the reassignment of the brigade from the Territorial Defense Forces to the Marine Corps.
According to the official recruitment website and sources close to the brigade, the 126th Territorial Defense Brigade has been restructured into the 39th Coastal Defense Brigade. This follows the earlier transformation of the 124th Brigade into the 34th Coastal Defense Brigade, which we reported on January 12, 2025, and the conversion of the 150th Mechanized Brigade into the 40th Coastal Defense Brigade, which we covered on December 30, 2024.
