New brigade received Leopard tanks

Another brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces has been equipped with German-supplied Leopard 1A5 tanks. The latest unit to operate these tanks is the 142nd Mechanized Brigade. Originally formed in 2023 as a reserve infantry brigade, it was reorganized into a mechanized formation in January 2025, as previously reported by MilitaryLand. Since its reformation, the brigade had not displayed any tanks, leading to speculation about whether it possessed a dedicated armored component. That question has now been answered—the presence of tanks has been confirmed.

It is the sixth unit within the Ground Forces—and the seventh overall—to operate Leopard 1A5 tanks. You can find the full list of operators on our site here.

Part of 9th Army Corps

It has also been revealed that the 142nd Mechanized Brigade has joined the 9th Army Corps, replacing the 33rd Mechanized Brigade, which joined the newly formed 20th Army Corps, as reported by MilitaryLand on June 20, 2025.
