New Air Assault Artillery Brigade Unveiled

In late July 2025, MilitaryLand reported on the beginning of the formation of a new artillery brigade in the Air Assault Forces as part of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The new artillery brigade was designated as the 147th Artillery Brigade, as evident from a picture of soldiers from the brigade and the former President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko. However, further details have emerged about the unit since MilitaryLand’s initial report.

Both of the artillery brigades in the Air Assault Forces have been reassigned, with the 148th Artillery Brigade, previously part of the 7th Rapid Response Corps, being reassigned to the 8th Air Assault Corps. This was confirmed by the official Facebook page of the corps, as shown by their profile banner, which displays all the unit insignias. This, therefore, has led to the assignment of the 147th Artillery Brigade with the 7th Corps, with both artillery brigades’ last number matching their corps designation.

The unit has also received its insignia, which has been redrawn by our contributor Davomme, in high resolution.

The insignia depicts a chevron divided into two with the traditional colours of Air Assault units, being deep maroon and a mid-blue colour. The central imagery of the insignia features a pair of wings in a toned silver colour, with the iconography being similar to the 77th Airmobile Brigade, also part of the 7th Corps. In between the wings is a cannon pointing upwards with light and dark golden colours, contrasting well with the silver, red, and blue utilized in the rest of the chevron.

Additionally, official sources have revealed further information, including that the brigade is currently forming in the city of Dnipro, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, according to the brigade’s Facebook page. Moreover, the commander of the brigade has been revealed, known to be Colonel Viktor Dovhal. He is a battle-hardened officer who has been fighting since 2014. For the past two years, he commanded the artillery component of the 46th Airmobile Brigade and is also a holder of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi.

Recently, we have reported on several artillery formations in the Ukrainian Defense Forces, including the newly formed 60th Artillery Brigade in Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv Oblast, and is attached to the 20th Army Corps, as well as the 68th Artillery Brigade, forming in Berdychiv, Zhytomyr Oblast.
