Ground Forces Unveil New Air Defense Regiment

After months of quiet preparation, it has finally been made public — the formation of a new unit within the Air Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. On March 15, 2025, the 1027th Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Regiment was officially established on the basis of a previously existing anti-aircraft missile and artillery battalion of the 101st Brigade for the Protection of the General Staff.
This significant transformation marks a new chapter in the unit’s history, reflecting its rapid growth, operational maturity, and expanding capabilities. “We’re growing, we’re maturing — we are now a regiment,” the announcement declared.
The newly formed 1027th Regiment continues the critical mission it began as a battalion: protecting vital infrastructure, shielding Ukrainian forces on the frontlines, and covering missile-threatened directions across the country. Operating as a component of the Air Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
According to official data released with the announcement, since its reformation, the regiment has already destroyed 323 enemy aerial targets. These include:
- 3 Su-25 fighter-attack aircraft
- 1 Ka-52 attack helicopter
- 36 cruise missiles (types Kh-101/55/555/59/69, Kalibr)
- 229 enemy strike UAVs, including Shahed-131/136, Geran-2, Gerbera, and Lancet
- 58 reconnaissance and small strike UAVs, such as Orlan (various models), SuperCam, ZALA, Granat, Molniya, Molniya-2, Privet-82, and others
The announcement emphasized that while the designation may have changed, the mission remains the same. The 1027th Regiment remains committed to serving the Ukrainian people, defending the nation’s skies, and fulfilling its combat duties with unwavering dedication.
