67th Mechanized Brigade Completes Restructuring

The brigade has removed the last identifying symbols associated with the Right Sector.

In April 2024, we reported that investigations had commenced against unit commanders of the brigade; launching the process of transferring all commanders of the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps within the brigade to other military units. These fighters made up the core of the brigade’s fighting force, with many later leaving.

By October 2024, we also reported that soldiers from the 1st Rifle Battalion of the 67th Mechanized Brigade had left the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to join the Ukrainian National Guard to keep the fighters of the original organization together.

Since then, many efforts have been made to replenish the brigade with fresh recruits and move away from the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps’s identity within the brigade. This has been seen with the appointment of a new commander, Lt. Col. Oleksandr Polyaiev who succeeded Col. Roman Korenyuk. While much of the information regarding these scandals remains unclear, the brigade has transformed its image considerably throughout the year.

In order to remove the remaining Right Sector’s influence from the brigade, the unit was seen to have a new insignia in late November on its Facebook page, with the distinctive colors of Right Sector and the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps being retained. Recently it has been confirmed, with combat footage alongside the 60th Mechanized Brigade posted by the brigade on Facebook, that the new insignia is here to stay.

The new insignia features the traditional chevron in a white and red color scheme; retaining some similarities to the old color palette used on its previous insignia. The center of the insignia bears a sword in the middle, with wings accompanied by it on either side. The insignia remains an echo of its past, with the sword being central to the insignia, accompanied by wings rather than rifles, much like the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps and initial brigade design.

Unit’s page of the 67th Mechanized Brigade has been updated to reflect these changes.
