29th Heavy Brigade Unveils Its Structure and Leadership

The 29th Heavy Mechanized Brigade has recently appeared on social media, offering the first insights into the unit, including its corps assignment and commanding officer.
Assigned under Corps
The brigade has officially been placed under the 14th Army Corps of the Ground Forces, as confirmed by its official Facebook page. Until now, the 29th Brigade had been the final heavy mechanized formation without a publicly known corps affiliation.
With this assignment, the 12th Army Corps remains the only corps formation without a dedicated heavy mechanized brigade. Given that the 12th Corps is tasked primarily with the defense of Kyiv and force regeneration, it is possible that it will not be deployed to the frontline — and therefore may not require a heavy mechanized unit.
Commander appointed
The brigade is led by Colonel Taras Mazurok. According to research by MilitaryLand, Mazurok was born in 1994 and graduated from the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy in 2015 with a degree in Management of Tank Units. By 2018, he served as deputy commander of the tank battalion of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade.
On March 18, 2022, Mazurok — then a major and commander of a tank battalion — was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 2nd Class for inflicting significant losses on Russian forces in Donetsk Oblast.
His younger brother, Nazar Mazurok, a platoon commander of the 24th Assault Battalion “Aidar,” was killed near Bakhmut on September 4, 2022.
