155th Brigade Faces Leadership Change Amid First Deployment (Updated)

Update (11.12.2024 – 21:30):

According to the brigade’s official Facebook page, Col. Taras Maksimov has assumed command of the brigade, succeeding Lt. Col. Oleh Kosovsky, who served as the acting commander on a temporary basis. In 2021, he served as a senior officer in an artillery unit of the 14th Mechanized Brigade, but no information about his activities has been available since then.

Original article:

Colonel Dmytro Ryumshin has left his position as commander of the 155th Mechanized Brigade, according to an announcement on the brigade’s official Facebook page. His departure comes shortly after the unit completed its training and returned to Ukraine. A letter of gratitude to Ukrainian volunteers hints that this change may have occurred as early as November, following the brigade’s return from France, though it has only now been officially revealed.

According to the letter, Lt. Col. Oleh Kosovsky, formerly the deputy commander of a logistics unit, has been appointed as the acting commander of the brigade. Remarkably, this is the third leadership change for the brigade, even though it has only recently been deployed to the frontline for the first time.

Col. Dmytro Ryumshin was appointed commander of the brigade in the summer of 2024, during its reorganization into a mechanized unit. Prior to this, he commanded the 33rd Mechanized Brigade and later led the 47th Mechanized Brigade during the defense of Avdiivka. However, after just two months in command, concerns about the brigade’s performance prompted Ukrainian high command to relieve him of his duties, as reported in March.

In such a big army, with so many experient and exellent people and effective units how hard can it be to put somebody competent as the brigade commander?

Patrick
