Vedmedi Assault Group is a separate volunteer unit under the command of 36th Marine Corps. The group was originally formed as part of the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps and, in 2015, joined the Ukrainian Volunteer Army alongside Dmytro Yarosh. On February 24, 2022, the unit was stationed in Mariupol, where they assisted in defending the city and later the Azovstal steel plant. During this period, they became part of the Ukrainian National Guard and Azov. In 2023, the commander and several servicemen returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity, leading to the restoration of the unit’s combat capability. Subsequently, the group joined the 36th Marine Brigade.
