About Unit

Sonechko Battalion is a unit of the 9th Unmanned Systems Brigade as part of the Unmanned Systems Forces.

It was formed in 2014 and participated in the liberation of Avdiivka, Karlivka, and Pisky. The unit consists of Ukrainian volunteers from Zakarpattia Oblast and is primarily known for reconnaissance and sabotage operations.

On February 24, 2022, the unit announced full mobilization and deployed to Kyiv to defend the capital. Since then, it has participated in the defense of Kyiv, the liberation of Kharkiv Oblast, and battles for Kherson, Bakhmut, Zaporizhzhia, Avdiivka, and Vovchansk.

In 2024, the commander, along with a small contingent of soldiers from the unit, left to form the Vidar Special Unit, which remains within the structure of the Main Directorate of Intelligence under the Tymur unit.

On July 14, 2025, the battalion joined the 9th Unmanned Systems Brigade of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces.
