About Unit

Operational Tactical Group Soledar is a command unit of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, created in 2023 under the Operational Strategical Group Khortytsia to organize and lead the unit involved for the defense of Bakhmut, Soledar and its surroundings.
After the loss of the two settlements, the Tactical Group was disbanded in 2024 and the forces under its command were brought under the Operational Tactical Unit Luhansk, which originated the existing 11th Army Corps after the 2025 Ukranian Army structure reorganization.

Following the loss of Siversk in december 2025, Ukraine’s senior military command decided to reduce 11th Army Corps frontline area of responsibility, leaving control of its right flank to a restablished Operational Tactical Group Soledar, under the command of Brigadier General Denys Maistrenko, head of the 169th Training Center.

Tactical Groups

Operational Tactical Units (OTUs) and Tactical Groups (TGs) are temporary command structures within the Ukrainian Defense Forces, established in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion. They were created to oversee and coordinate troops operating directly in combat zones and surrounding areas. Their authority is limited to the forces deployed within their assigned areas of responsibility. The structure and role of these units were explored in detail by MilitaryLand in the article “The Role of Tactical Groups and Corps in the Armed Forces,” published in November 2024.
