About Unit

The 97th Mechanized Battalion, a unit within the Ground Forces of Ukraine under the command of the 60th Mechanized Brigade, was established in 2015 as part of the Reserve Corps.

In 2023, the battalion effectively ceased to exist due to heavy losses sustained during the battle of Bakhmut. However, on September 26, 2023, the battalion was recreated from scratch on the basis of Azov-Kharkiv, formerly the 226th Reconnaissance Battalion.

In early 2025, the battalion was reorganized into the 3rd mechanized battalion of the 60th Mechanized Brigade and ceased to exist as a separate unit.
