About Unit

The 5th Separate Rifle Battalion was a unit of the Ukranian Ground Forces, formed on March 3, 2022 in the city of Uzhhorod by the Zakarpattia Regional Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center. The personnel consisted of mobilized volunteers who were the first to respond to the full scale invasion of Ukraine in February.

The battalion fought its first battle in April 2022 in the Luhansk region, where, as part of the Defense Forces, it helped repel the enemy’s offensive on Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk. After restoring its combat capability, the battalion returned to performing combat missions.

The battalion also carried out combat missions in Chernihiv oblast on the border area, for the defense of Avdiivka, and partecipated in the battles for Robotyne in the southern direction subordinated to the 118th Mechanized Brigade.

In 2025, the battalion was reformed into the linear motorized battalion of the brigade, ceasing to exist as a separate entity.
