5th Battalion of Territorial Defense was a separate unit of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, formed from the residents of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast in May 2014. On August 23, the battalion left its positions and returned to Ivano-Frankivks without an order from the higher command. The battalion commander was arrested on suspicion of desertion, combatants were charged for evasion of service in a combat environment and the unit was disbanded in January 2015.
