1st Rifle Battalion

1st Rifle Battalion was a linear unit of the 3rd Assault Brigade.

The unit was propped up between mid to late 2023, as a way to reinforce the brigade with two additional infantry battalions accompanying the mechanized and assault units under its command.

It saw heavy fighting during the fall of the Ukrainian city of Avdiivka in late 2023 to early 2024, with the Ukrainian High Command reinforcing the city with the 3rd Assault Brigade to allow time for Ukrainian Forces to withdraw from the city. Amidst the fighting, the battalion, alongside the 2nd Rifle Battalion, suffered numerous casualties.

After the battle, the unit was likely disbanded and its personnel absorbed into the other line battalions, which began to form a fourth linear company in its ranks.
