The battalion was formed in the early stages of 2022 initially as the 238 Territorial Defense Battalion of the 129th Territorial Defense Brigade, but at the start of 2024 the battalion was reformed into a separate rifle battalion and was put under the command of the 81st Airmobile Brigade.
