The Ground Forces of Ukraine are establishing two new mechanized units, the 161st Mechanized Brigade and the 162nd Mechanized Brigade, both continuing the 160-series. This was revealed by volunteers on social medias and LobbyX recruitment server.

These units are expected to be fully operational by the first half of 2025. We reported back in August 2024 about formation of 160th Mechanized Brigade, the first in this series.

This marks the second formation of the 161st Mechanized Brigade, which originally existed within the Ukrainian Armed Forces from 1992 until its disbandment in 2004. The brigade was stationed in Iziaslav, Khmelnytskyi Oblast and was part of 13rd Army Corps, which existed in 1992 – 2013.
