The Army forms its first heavy mechanized brigade

The 17th Tank Brigade has been restructured into a heavy brigade.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have established a new heavy mechanized brigade within the Ground Forces—the first of its kind. Formed from the 17th Tank Brigade, the new unit retains its original military unit number, Kryvyi Rih base, and insignia. The transformation was announced on the brigade’s official Facebook page; while the October 24 post still referenced the 17th Tank Brigade, by October 26, it was officially referred to as the 17th Heavy Mechanized Brigade.

The 17th Heavy Mechanized Brigade was established in 1992, following the transfer of the 17th Guards Tank Division to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In 2003, a state-led reform scaled the unit down to brigade size. With Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the brigade’s tank battalions were assigned to newly formed mechanized brigades, meaning the 17th Tank Brigade no longer fought as a unified force.

I see a lot of people saying the Ukrainians want to fight but they have a huge problem with fighting aged men trying to dessert and go to Europe, they’ve had to build border fences and security to stop the young guys from absconding, I personally think both are correct you’ll have people who are up for the fight and others that wish it would just end, it suits the West if Ukraine keeps fighting

Michael

This should have been resolved politically given the geopolitics of the the area. We have the worst Secretary of State Blinkey absolutely useless! Look up the Crimean Wars and see what happened to the Light Brigade. Russian Artillery.

Frank jones

Yeah by ceding all the territory to putin. Easy peezy when u dont live there.

Clayton Evans

Bingo! Ukrainians are fighting for their lives and the lives of their families and countrymen. Their war with Russia is one of absolute necessity.

Tom

You said it there, and if good old mr. Day glow orange gets re elected… he will happily give Ukraine and just about all of nato right on over to scootin putin.. god that’s all we need .. then it will just about be us against the world… yes I think some of what I said might be a bit of a stretch.. but with how much he admires scooten putin.. who knows?

searay

You are correct! The orange clown wants nothing more than to appease putin.

Lol

He’s a Russiam troll

Michael

Poland and Germany do not want to get into a war with Russia. That being said, our units that are on the Ukrainian border do not have sufficient ammunition: i.e. 155 rounds because they were all given away and they can’t get supplied.

James

Ok Mr Negative. First off Poland in no Way is worried about Fighting Russian .That been made clear. Can’t say as much for Germany. As for 155 rounds they stock piles and several times a week more are delivered with good system of Logistics

B. Wyatt

“Those who forget the past, are destined to relive it ”
Sir Winston Churchill

Terry

NATO should give them two days to get out of Ukraine or they should go in

Giss

NATO just need to let Ukraine loose without any handicaps.
Untie their hands and it will all be over for Putin by the end of next summer.

Doogie

Ukraine doesn’t even have the personnel to make that happen. They are being decimated.

James

They are not being Decimated. If they were, Then how do They continue to stay in the fight ?! BTW Latest troop strength and Size for Armies around the world, puts Ukraine in 6th Place with an Armed Force of 900,000

Patrick

So why are they screaming about lack of manpower? The Russians only have 600,000 on the ground in Ukraine.

Omi1487

And russia also have men problems, getting soldiers from north korea, africa, anywhere around the world.Bot to mention getting weapons and ammo from DPRK,iran, china and who knows who else.Plus the economic disaster that awaits them.

Omi1487

So its russia, getting soldiers from north korea, africa, india and else, and ammo from DPRK,china and others. No to mention they dont even have people to fill their jobs in russia, and the economic disaster that awaits them…

David Turner

Are you going to send YOUR son or daughter to fight in Europe.

Doogie

So you want nuclear war….

Gwebster

I think the local europeans France and Poland sbould commit troops since North Korea and possibly Kran have done.

Omi1487

Agree 100%…remember what macron said few months back. That if russia breakthrough he would sent french forces to help Ukraine. Well I think is time. They need to grow some balls.I dont understand how russia can get men power, weapons and ammo from anywhere around the world and we are scared to even let them hit deep inside russia. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Patrick

Most French people don’t want to send their soldiers to die for Ukraine. Only pro-NATO warmongers and Macron are ready to do that. It’s a war between TWO COUNTRIES ONLY. Don’t make it into WW3.

Andrew

It’s already WW3. Choice now is who survives. The orc-lovers, or people who care about freedom.

Patrick

Best tactic for Ukraine is to launch another large-scale offensive against Belgorod-Kursk- Briansk regions – this time with up to 100.000 soldiers. The Russians don’t have reserves there.

MilitaryObserve

this is a very interesting plan of the Ukrainian Armed Forces; it needs a lot of shells for this and people will only better focus on deterrence in Donbass

Chris Banica

So Ukraine lost 150 sq km in one Month in Donets and you want more Ukrainian troops in Russia???

Miles_Ignigena

150 sq km is not that much. Not by the overall size of Ukraine anyway. Plus, its not in one spot, but here and there. Basically Ukraine is still trading space for time. The questions are, what they will do with the gained time and what prize does russia have to pay for that space.

Doogie

Ukraine forces are retreating so fast that they don’t have time to prepare any kind of defences. It’s only a matter of time now before they collapse completely.

Warrdog791

You know nothing of warfare

Omi1487

Y’all been saying that since the beginning remember it was supposed to be over in 3 days.Well 3 years later Ukraine still standing. That’s while fighting with hands tied, not enough ammo or weapons and a much smaller air force and without a navy.Imagine if we take the handcuffs off them and let them fight ,plus give them what they need when they need it.I said they’ve done pretty damn good(Ukraine)

Giss

20000 is more than enough.
100000, when they are so stretched isn’t a good tactic.
Just remove any restrictions and Ukraine will wipe out Putin.

Doogie

With what troops and equipment they were decimated in Kursk and the Donetsk

Omi1487

Damn if you love russia so much why don’t you move there.Defending russia like you were russian.Or maybe you are a russian cause damn you go to such extend to be part of their propaganda machine…

Omi1487

This sounds pretty interesting, maybe that way russia would be force to pull back its forces out of Ukraine to defend those areas.Or at least diverge some of them from heavy fighting areas to defend inside russia.

Zhorik Vartanov

yes, 100.000 soldiers and don’t forget F-16. Excellent plan. I don’t see any flows, rock-solid

Kenneth Potts

It’s no different than what we are doing, or what was done years prior by attaching different units.

JCwrld

Can someone explain how it’s a “Heavy Mech Brigade” and how that differs from a regular Mech Brigade? Is there any functional difference or is it another PR stunt? The Nazis at the end of WWII had several new formed “Panzer Divisions”, yet they merely existed on Paper and in Propaganda to German civilians, in reality they were short staffed, undermanned and lacked actual ‘Panzers’.

Vitali Druzhini

ZELENSKY received less than 10 percent of promised military Intelligence aid and financing at recent forum of Nordic countries.Anything militarily viable option for Ukraine will be to start laboring for peace with Russia on unfavorable conditions. Poland will ve next in line for Putin’security services GRU KGB team.

SpruceDog

Or western allies could finally step up and stop acting cowardly in tbe face of Russian aggression. As it stands now, Russia/Iran/N.Korea & to some degree China have clearly formed an “Axis of Autocracy” to counter Democratic nations. If allowed to continue pursuing power thru aggression its not likely that they’ll stop.

Doogie

NATO aggression is why Putin is in Ukraine ffs…🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️People can’t really be this dense.

Bill

George Bush Jr. called it the “axis of evil” and the press made fun of him for it. In retrospect, he was right on the money.

Nkem Ossai

That’s a wrong-headed approach to dealing with Putin. Ukraine has him beat already – as is clearly indicated by his procurement of assistance from his fellow dictator in North Korea. Your proposition here is literally a recipe for disaster in Europe that tacks snugly with the Neville Chamberlain infamy. I figure you’re Georgian then…given the speed you’re wont to capitulate to tyranny!

Doogie

Do you pay attention to anything? Ukrainian forces are retreating so fast that they don’t have time to prepare any real defensive positions. North Korean troops are there most likely as a trade for the munitions supplied to Russia….. They are getting combat experience which is invaluable.

Warrdog791

Yes but not these 1st ones, cannon fodder. Russian generals leading them from the rear as they’ve always done.

Bill

I think Putin is using foreign troops because…he can. It’s like investing in real estate with other people’s money.

Embor

So what it really could mean?

Miles_Ignigena

They either have too few tanks and used the 2 battalions as replacements for other brigades, or they have a plan for the 17th, which made the transformation nessesary.

Frujin

Tank Brigades as a whole are not as a viable as when they were first created. I think this is an experiment to see how they can evolve and be used better.
