The Ukrainian Navy has established the 101st Separate Anti-Aircraft Missile Division under Marine Corps command. While the unit was formally created on June 24, 2025, its existence surfaced only recently, after MilitaryLand contributors uncovered references to it on the LobbyX recruitment portal and subsequently confirmed its existence via official website.

In Ukrainian military terminology, artillery and air defense “divisions” are battalion-sized formations. Despite the name, such units are comparable in size and structure to battalions in NATO armies, with the term reflecting legacy organizational naming rather than a larger formation level.

The 101st Separate Anti-Aircraft Missile Division is commanded by Major Maksym Tsukrenko, a veteran of the 35th Marine Brigade. He rose through the ranks from platoon commander to head of the brigade’s air defense division before assuming his current post. The unit is subordinated to the 30th Marine Corps and is tasked with providing air cover for ground forces against aerial threats.

The division has already received its official insignia in standard Marine Corps visual style, along with the motto “The Unconquered Win,” reflecting the unit’s emphasis on discipline, attentiveness, and solidarity.

The 101st Air Defense Division is equipped with a range of systems designed to control the airspace, including short-range anti-aircraft weapons for engaging low-flying targets and self-propelled missile systems with thermal guidance. These systems are optimized to counter UAVs, helicopters, and cruise missiles, offering a high probability of intercept even against low-signature and highly maneuverable threats while operating from mobile platforms.

Number 101

The 101st Separate Anti-Aircraft Missile Division is the fifth unit in the Ukrainian Defense Forces to carry the number 101. Other units include the 101st Anti-Tank Battalion of the Ground Forces, the 101st Communication Regiment of the Air Force, the 101st Territorial Defense Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces, and the 101st Guard Brigade of the General Staff.
