Lynx Assault Battalion Becomes a Regiment

The Ukrainian General Staff has once again expanded an Assault Battalion into the scale of a regiment, namely the 25th Assault Battalion, making this the seventh unit to become an Assault Regiment within the span of the last year and a half under Commander in Chief, General Oleksandr Syrskyi.
The unit’s expansion was rumoured around early May 2026 across several channels, and was officially confirmed by the unit themselves on its social pages on June 1, 2026, being redesignated as the 25th Assault Regiment; and its insignia being changed accordingly to match its new shortname abbreviation.
For much of the battalion’s existence, it was assigned under the command of the 47th Mechanized Brigade “Mahura”, where it would participate in the efforts to assault Robotyne during the Ukrainian summer counteroffensive of 2023, aimed at liberating Melitopol, where it fought intensely against Russian Forces who were well consolidated in the sector.
Under the command of the brigade, it would once again rigorously take part in the defense of the Ukrainian city of Avdiivka in early 2024. In August 2025, the battalion departed from the 47th Mechanized Brigade and began positioning itself to become an independent unit, directly under the command of General Oleksander Syrskyi.
