Anne of Kyiv Brigade joins 21st Corps

On July 31, 2025, MilitaryLand reported that the 93rd Mechanized Brigade and the newly formed 159th Mechanized Brigade had joined the 21st Army Corps of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
It is now confirmed that the 155th Mechanized Brigade, more widely known by its nickname Anne of Kyiv, has also been assigned to the 21st Army Corps. The corps’ official social media channels announced the transfer earlier today.
The Anne of Kyiv brigade has been one of the more high-profile units over the last year. Since its formation, the brigade has faced multiple challenges, beginning with hype and overcoming numerous hardships. This included multiple scandals, an investigation, allegations of misconduct during its first deployment, and a leadership shake-up amidst its poor performance on the battlefield. The brigade is currently deployed to Pokrovsk, where it holds the line on the outskirts of the city.

This isn’t about this brigade but may still be of interest: on Aug. 8, General Alexander Lapin was reportedly removed as commander of Russia’s Northern Group of Forces. His tenure has been marked by repeated setbacks, including the 2022 retreat from the Kharkiv region, mismanagement during the Kursk operation, and his failure to capture Vovchansk or establish a strategic buffer zone.
