27th Brigade Loses Rocket Status

The 27th Rocket Artillery Brigade of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, one of only two rocket brigades, has been reorganized into a standard artillery brigade and is now known as the 27th Artillery Brigade. This leaves the Ground Forces with just one rocket artillery brigade — the 107th.
The change is linked to the ongoing transformation of the Defense Forces into a corps–brigade structure, as well as to the shortage of rocket artillery systems.

About 27th Artillery Brigade
Prior to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the brigade operated solely BM-27 Uragan multiple rocket launchers. However, during the war, sightings of these vehicles became rare, likely due to a shortage of 220 mm rockets. In June, when the United States supplied the first HIMARS to Ukraine, they were assigned to the 27th Brigade. Recently, the 19th Missile Artillery Brigade was spotted operating HIMARS, suggesting that the HIMARS unit was likely transferred from the 27th Brigade to the 19th Brigade.
The 27th Brigade is not the first unit to lose its rocket status. In 2023, the 32nd Rocket Artillery Regiment of the Ukrainian Marine Corps was reorganized into the 32nd Artillery Brigade, losing its multiple rocket launcher battalions in the process.
