144th Infantry Brigade becomes mechanized

The 144th Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces has officially restructured from an infantry unit to a mechanized brigade, marking another step in reforms within the army. This was revealed through the Facebook page of the brigade, changing its description to “144th Mechanized Brigade” and also through video publications changing its designation. The brigade’s account name is still yet to be changed.

This anticipated transformation follows after other brigades in the 140th series were reformed. In December 2024 we were the first to report on the 141st Mechanized Brigade’s reformation, followed by our exclusive coverage in early January 2025 of the 142nd and 143rd Brigades undergoing similar transitions.

In addition to its reformation, the 144th Mechanized Brigade revealed in a Facebook post that it had formed an unmanned systems battalion, highlighting its growing capabilities.
