122nd Airmobile Battalion Disbanded After Decade of Service

The 122nd Airmobile Battalion (122 окремий аеромобільний батальйон) of the 81st Airmobile Brigade was disbanded in August 2025. From its remnants, a new formation—the 3rd Airmobile Battalion of the same brigade—was created. The change was confirmed by the unit’s official Instagram account and the official Facebook page of the 81st Airmobile Brigade. After more than a decade, 122nd Airmobile Battalion ends its path as a separate unit.

About 122nd Airmobile Battalion
The 122nd Airmobile Battalion was originally formed in 2014 on the basis of the 3rd Airmobile Battalion of the 80th Air Assault Brigade. It took part in the defense of Donetsk Airport, holding its positions until the very last days of the battle. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the battalion had defended Izyum, Sievierodonetsk, and Rubizhne, and later took part in the liberation of Lyman.

Appreciate your work on the military character in Ukraine – even after the war I’m sure it will provide a learner resource.
Jerome, do you have a view on these changes, from smaller groups to the Corps structure. I understand the need to group specialised skills into one command structure, but, is it working for Ukraine – what do the “ordinary” arm folk say?
