53rd Mechanized Brigade Undergoing Reforms

The brigade embarks on a new chapter with fresh leadership and a redesigned insignia.

On November 25, 2024, we reported the beginning of reformations of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade, including the appointment of a new commander: Oleksandr Sak.

Throughout November 2024, it has been suggested by many sources that the brigade has undergone a widespread reformation; including an effort to rebrand itself. This includes the aforementioned dismissal of Colonel Kozel and the appointment of Colonel Oleksandr Sak in October. Other sources from social media such as the brigade’s Facebook page later indicated the introduction of a new insignia at an awards ceremony in mid-November.

It was later confirmed in November that combat footage of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade clearly showed the new official insignia displayed.

New insignia of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade, redrawn by Davomme

The old insignia featured the traditional chevron for the Ground Forces with the head of Medusa and her serpentine hair with a golden bird in the center of the insignia. The new insignia moves in a completely new direction, retaining a similar color palette to the old one; instead, it now appears to be a Tryzub-styled symbol with a variant of the Cossack cross at the bottom.

Unit’s page of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade has been updated to reflect these changes.

Its not a cossack cross but instead a remake of personal crest of Vsevolod Yaroslavych
