Nomad Volunteer Unit is a unit of the International Legion of HUR MO.
The unit was formed in December 2024 by volunteers from the Russian Federation, similar to other units such as the Free Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps. Instead, this unit is predominantly made up of minorities from Russia, notably the central and eastern regions.
The motivation of these fighters is characterized by armed resistance against the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and interference in Europe, as well as the collapse of the Russian Federation and the independence of Nomadic populations in the Russian Arctic regions.
On February 25, 2025, the unit signed a memorandum of cooperation with the ‘I Want to Live’ initiative, expanding the powers of the units to allow a greater number of Russian soldiers who surrender to join their ranks.
The unit has ties to separatist movements within the Russian Federation, including the Karelian National Movement, which helped to initially form the Karelian National Battalion, now known as Karelian Group, before cutting ties with the unit and its fighters over ideological splits regarding the incursions launched into Russia by ethnic Russian groups within the Ukrainian military.
On March 3, 2025, it became official that the unit had officially joined the International Legion as part of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine, thereby integrating it under a more formal command structure rather than remaining as an independent unit.
It became known in August 2025 that the unit had been deployed for the first time in recent months.
