Omega Special Purpose Center підрозділ Національної гвардії України.
The unit was formed in April with the intention of conducting special operations and counter-terrorism missions in some of the most demanding operational environments. To fulfil this role, it was staffed with highly-trained specialists, including paratroopers, combat divers, mountain warfare experts, and other highly capable individuals.
Initially, it was part of the Internal Troops of Ukraine, which fell under the command of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Since 2014, the units’ personnel have been involved in defending Ukraine throughout the Russo-Ukrainian War, since the beginning of hostilities in Crimea and Donbas. It has participated in some of the most challenging combat operations across multiple front lines.
Following the recreation of the Ukrainian National Guard in 2014, following the Revolution of Dignity, it was transferred to the ranks.
Over the years, it has continuously expanded with additional detachments being formed. Following reforms within the Ukrainian National Guard in 2018, all Special Purpose Units were united under the conditional name “Omega”, bringing to life the Omega Special Purpose Center. This brought together the most elite operators, dedicated to carrying out high-risk and complex missions.
After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, it has participated in numerous of the most intense and high-profile battles throughout the invasion. On the very first day, it took part in the Battle of Hostomel and the Antonov Airport north of the Ukrainian capital city, Kyiv.
Later, it would fight around the cities of Moshchun, Horenka, and Irpin. Simultaneously, other members of the center would go on to fight in other major cities such as Kharkiv, situated next to the Russian border in eastern Ukraine. It also defended numerous other cities, including Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, the bloody battle of Bakhmut, Vuhledar, and Avdiivka.
More recently, it has performed combat tasks in the cities of New York and Toretsk, and more recently, Pokrovsk.
