It was formed in October 2018 to help assist the Air Assault Forces in reconnaissance operations of various scales.
Following December 2018, the battalion was engaged in carrying out combat missions amidst the Joint Forces Operation, performing tasks in Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts.
On October 23, 2021, the unit received its own battle flag, which was awarded by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
At the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it distinguished itself for the defense of Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts. It was the first unit to enter the Pripyat settlement, infamously near Chornobyl, and conducted thorough reconnaissance of entry and exit routes against Russian occupiers who may have resided in the city.
On November 17, 2022, the unit was awarded the distinction “For Courage and Bravery” by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
At the onset of the Kursk incursion in August 2024, the unit participated in many combat missions against formidable Russian Forces in Kursk Oblast of the Russian Federation, carrying out many reconnaissance and sabotage missions against the enemy.
Following the Corps-Brigade reform within the Ukrainian Defence Forces in 2025, the battalion joined the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Air Assault Forces, becoming the corps’ dedicated reconnaissance battalion.
In February 2026, the battalion’s soldiers broke through the enemy’s defense line in the Oleksandrivka direction.
