Signum Unit Joins Unmanned Systems Forces

On April 2, 2026, the Signum Unmanned Systems Battalion announced via its official social media channels that it had transferred from the 53-тя механізована бригада до 59-а штурмова бригада.
The move is likely connected to the battalion’s previous command relationships. Colonel Oleksandr Sak, who assumed command of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade in November 2024. He had earlier served in the 93-тя механізована бригада, acting as the commander of the brigade’s 3rd Mechanized Battalion.
During this period, Sak was involved in supporting the creation of the Signum unit, which was initially formed by volunteers in February 2022 as an infantry formation before transitioning to unmanned systems operations. In June 2022, the unit became officially part of the brigade and volunteers signed contracts with the Armed Forces.

In late 2024, Sak was appointed commander of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade, and in December that year, Signum was transferred to the unit.
After Colonel Sak was reassigned in May 2025 to command the 59th Assault Brigade, the battalion’s latest transfer may suggest a preference to reunite with its former leader.
Additionally, integration into the Unmanned Systems Forces will possibly help the unit to become more effective, with the entire branch aimed at strengthening and modernizing the approach of drones and unmanned systems in general to become more effective across the frontline, with a cohesive command structure.

So… will the 53rd now be left without a Unmanned Systems Battalion, or is just the core from back in the 93rd Brigade’s days going to the 59th? The entire Battalion leaving can’t be good for the 53rd.
Edit: Apparently, they reportedly trained up a replacement unit over the past few months. So 53rd is not left without a Unmanned Systems Battalion.
