Полковнику.Oleksandr “Staff” Sak began his service in the 93-тя механізована бригада during the ATO period as a platoon commander, progressing to company up to 3rd battalion commander, with each step earned through real combat experience.
In November 2022 he took command of newly created 47-ма механізована бригада, leading it in the difficult times when it operated as one of the spearheads of the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the South. In September 2023, following the failed offensive in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the brigade’s poor battlefield performance and internal issues within the command staff, Oleksandr Sak was removed from his position as commander.
У листопаді 2024 року Sak was promoted to the rank of Colonel and was appointed commander про розширення 53-тя механізована бригада. After only six months, in May 2025, he took the lead of the reorganized 59-а штурмова бригада, which currently leads on the Pokrovsk front, in april 2026, when the famous Signum Unmanned Systems Battalion transferred from the 53rd Brigade to the 59th Brigade, likely following the desire to reconnect with its former commander.
Colonel Sak holds all three classes of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi — a rare distinction reflecting that each award was earned through real operations, decisions, and risks taken personally and responsibly.
