Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree authorizing the deployment to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali.

The decree states that the national contingent to Mali will consist of up to 20 members of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. According to the President, Ukraine confirms its commitments as a UN member by this move.

They will be deployed as part of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). The mission was established by UN Security Council back in 2013 to support the political process in Mali.

It’s not the first mission UN for Ukraine to Africa. The 18th Helicopter Detachment is currently deployed to Congo and recently the 56th Helicopter Detachment returned from their mission in Liberia.
