Ukraine Raises Fourth New Mechanized Brigade of 2026

A new mechanized formation has been established within the Ukrainian Ground Forces: the 76th Mechanized Brigade. Its existence was revealed through the Ukrainian recruitment platform LobbyX, where the unit is advertising vacancies for a Head of the Social Support Group, staff sergeants, and several other rear-area positions.

The creation of the 76th Mechanized Brigade is part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ ongoing 2026 expansion. Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi has sought to strengthen defenses in northern Ukraine, primarily in response to the potential threat of Belarusian involvement in the war. Despite persistent manpower and equipment shortages, three other brigades have already been identified as being in formation: the 50th Mechanized Brigade, the 55th Mechanized Brigade, and the 167th Mechanized Brigade.

The 76th Mechanized Brigade is the fourth new mechanized brigade to be raised in 2026 and the first to occupy a previously unused designation in the 70-series numbering.
