The units of Azov [Updated #2]
The times when there was just the Azov Battalion are long gone.
Azov recently announced reformation of three units under the command of Ukrainian Armed Forces. It’s a good opportunity to recap what units bear the Azov name.
Updated #1: Four more Azov unit added to the list.
Updated #2: It has become known that 127th Brigade is part of Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces. The command of Azov-Kyiv released a new insignia of the unit.
Azov Regiment
National Guard of Ukraine
The original unit, formed in 2014 as Azov Battalion. The first battalion is deployed to Mariupol, second battalion to Kyiv. You can read more about them on our site.
Special Purpose Regiment Azov-Kyiv
Special Forces Forces of Ukraine
Founded as Azov Territorial Defense Unit in Kyiv. On March 9, 2022, the unit was reformed into a regiment and reassigned under the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
225th Reconnaissance battalion Azov
127th Defense Brigade, Territorial Defense Forces
Founded as Azov Territorial Defense Unit in Kharkiv. On March 12, 2022, the unit was reformed into 225th battalion of 127th Brigade under the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
226th Reconnaissance-sabotage battalion Azov

Founded as Azov Territorial Defense Unit in Kharkiv. On March 12, 2022, the unit was reformed into 226th battalion of 127th Brigade under the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Azov Tank Company

The unit is currently being formed in Kharkiv Oblast.
98th Battalion of Territorial Defense Azov-Dnipro
108th Dnipro Territorial Defense Brigade
Local territorial defense unit, currently deployed to the area of Orikhiv, Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
Azov-Prykarpattia
Independent unit
A volunteer battalion formed in Ivano-Frankivsk, currently deployed to eastern Ukraine.
Territorial Defense battalion Azov-Poltava

Also – reminder that fascism always needs to be defeated in the end, whether it calls itself national socialism, communism or BLM. Right now Ukraine’s enemy is the fascism of Russia.
For now, Azov can be seen as a necessary evil. Regardless of ideology, they are fighting the Russian invaders, and are therefore, no matter their ideological goals, helping Ukraine assert its liberty. After the war, Ukraine can make sure they don’t get any political traction, but for now, well… if you were falling off a cliff, you wouldn’t say “no thanks” if the person helping you up was a nazi, would you?

This website is primarily about Ukrainian units. If there is a new unit, or updated info on an existing, I post it. It doesn’t matter if it Azov or any other unit.
