First of its kinds in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, these units protect Ukrainian cities and hunt enemy drones.

Ukrainian command responded to the increased danger of Russian drones targeting Ukrainian infrastructure and is forming a completely new type of air defense formations – Anti-Aircraft Machine Gun units. These new units are designed to combat Russian kamikaze drones and are also known as drone hunters. In total, eight battalions, one regiment and one brigade have been created. All units are separate and part of Ukrainian Ground Force.
