Combat

Sporadic shelling and firefights were reported from the following places:

  • Shyrokyne
  • Marinka
  • Avdiivka
  • Svitlodarsk
  • Novoluhanske
  • Horlivka
  • Zolote
  • Krymske

July 28, 2018, enemy group consisting of 15 soldiers attacked Ukrainian checkpoint near Krymske village. The battle lasted two hours and both sides used artillery. As the result, two Ukrainian soldiers were killed (see Casualties below) and two injured. The attacking force suffered up to four killed and six wounded. The attack was not successful.

Casualties

July 26, 2018

  • Artur Bezsmertnyy (72nd Mechanized Brigade) – Latvia nationality, a former member of Volunteer Corps. He was killed during an enemy raid near Novoluhanske, Luhansk region. Served in Donbas since 2014.

July 27, 2018

  • Ivan Voytenko (72nd Mechanized Brigade) – senior officer of engineer company. He was killed by a mine while conducting engineering intelligence. Served in Donbas since 2014.

July 28, 2018

  • John Doe (unknown) – Enemy forces attacked Ukrainian checkpoint near Krymske village. Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed during the attack.

Military

  • Ukrainian jets were heard flying near Mariupol. It was the first time since 2014 to hear jets so close to contact line.
