The unit of Special Operations Forces returns to its Azov roots.

Special Purpose Unit Lyubart, a separate unit of Ukrainian Special Operations Forces, has been reformed as the 5th Special Purpose Battalion of 12th Special Purpose Brigade Azov of Ukrainian National Guard.

Lyubart is a volunteer unit formed by Azov veterans and members of Centuria movement in Volyn Oblast on the day of Russian full-scale invasion. They were prepared to defend Volyn, and later departed to defend the capital. In May 2022, they were integrated to the structure of Special Operations Forces.

The unit received a new insignia, which reflects the symbology of Azov. The unit is now a linear battalion of the Azov Brigade, and cease to exists as a separate unit.

What will happen next? Will it be another year for the next offensive?

Ukrainer

Who knows, who knows 😉

Patrick

Long term predictions are too risky to make. In the short term, the main question is do the Russian need a pause? And if not, where will they strike next? Place your bets.

Patrick

Ok, I’ll do the Q&A :))
The answer is ‘NO’ (e.g. today’s capture of Pobeda)

sad man

Is Pobeda significant? Maybe they’ll try to get to Ugledar from the north?

Patrick

It is significant because it allows them to advance towards Konstantinovka and Paraskoveevka and to put additional pressure on Novomilkhailovka which the Russians have already partially occupied from the east. Ugledar, which is further south, is indeed the end goal on this section of the front.

sad man

It is what I suspected. Why are the Russians so keen on taking Ugledar after all their failed attempts? On the map, it just looks like another small village which is far from everything.

Why has Jerome stopped with his update? They were pretty good and reasonable compared to everything else out there.

Coerenza

Ugdelar is a few kilometers from the main (logistics) railway line that reaches Crimea. The other place where the Ukrainians are close to the railway is Robotyne.

On the northern front the Russian objective could be to advance a little to reach the rivers (it could be a natural border in case of peace). If the Ukrainians needed men, this area could be a retreat zone

The Nerd

Russian troops have been amassing near Robotyne, the main area the last counter offensive had some success. They maybe looking to erase it.

Avdeevka has fallen 😭

Ukrainer

Avdiivka*

Tristan

Traitor Trump made sure this would happen. Disgusting.

Coerenza

In this story, for the Ukrainians I only see a positive aspect, they retreated (does anyone know anything about the number of prisoners?) saving the men while preserving their ability to fight in other battles.

Then I don’t know if this novelty is due to virtue (learned from Mariupol or Bakhmut) or necessity (lack of means)

Tristan

It isn’t a novelty. Ukrainians always retreated to avoid encirclement (the only exception being during the first month of the war, in particular Mariupol). In Bakhmut, Russian army failed to encircle the city and had to do frontal assault, which was very costly for them.

Ukrainer

For greater “dramaticness” it was necessary to write up to 30,000 🤦 russian propaganda is so primitive 🤡

Kiril

You like Tristan believe in cartoons and Santa? You have the radio records and you have the Azzov commander comments.

Total disaster. The Ukrainian command should have abandoned Avdijvka long time ago not waste elite forces.

But it’s game over, the more it’s prolonged the more losses on the peace agreement.

Coerenza

I don’t like to quote propaganda (of both sides).

The pro-Ukrainian video in the link (from February 16) talks about 24 hours to make up to 3000 Ukrainians escape. Russian propaganda talks of 1500 Ukrainian losses but “strangely” shows few videos to support it.

In my opinion (but now it’s easy to speak) the retreat should have been made when the Russians had stabilized beyond the railway.

Tristan

Sorry, but you are wrong. You are quoting lies of the Russians, as usual. Truth is: Most of the troops retreated. Sadly, a few dozen were left behind, and Russian War criminals killed some POW.
