Korsukov Appointed Commander of 20th Army Corps

A new commander has been appointed to lead the 20th Army Corps of the Ground Forces. This was revealed through a gift certificate obtained by MilitaryLand staff. The certificate shows that Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Korsukov has been appointed to lead the 20th Army Corps.

Previously, this position was held by Colonel Maksym Kituhin, who was dismissed by Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi in September 2025. He was relieved of his duties due to the “loss of positions in the corps’ respective area of responsibility.” Along with Kituhin, the commander of the 17th Army Corps, Colonel Volodymyr Silenko, was also dismissed. Who is Oleksandr Korsukov?

Very little is known about Korsukov. Through our research, we managed to find that in 2023, he served as commander of the 64th Territorial Defense Battalion. A photo on social media dated December 14, 2023, shows he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. According to the nus.in.ua portal, in March 2024 he was acting commander of the 103rd Territorial Defense Brigade. This aligns with the brigade’s timeline, as the commander of the 103rd Brigade, Valery Kurk, was dismissed from his post on February 14, 2024. Korsukov served as acting commander until May 19, 2024, when a new commander was officially appointed.

The appointment of Korsukov is a rather unusual decision, given the pool of experienced commanders currently active and in reserve. He has relatively limited experience, having only led a territorial defense brigade for three months. His appointment would suggest he is an acting commander until a permanent replacement is found; however, in such cases, this is typically noted in the gift certificate. The one we obtained clearly states “commander of unit A5170,” which is the 20th Army Corps.
