Ground Forces Stand Up Additional Mechanized Brigade

Despite severe manpower and equipment shortages across existing formations, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, recently announced the creation of additional mechanized brigades to counter the Russian invasion. He cited potential aggressive actions from Belarus as a reason for expanding the force.

The announcement confirms previous reports regarding the formation of the 50th and 167th Mechanized Brigades within the Ukrainian Ground Forces. Additionally, a new 55th Mechanized Brigade is currently being raised, according to listings on the Ukrainian recruiting portal LobbyX.

This unit marks the third new mechanized brigade established in 2026 as part of a broader expansion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Additional formations are rumored to be currently undergoing the official approval process.
