Frontline Situation Report – May 2024

Summary of the situation on the battlefield and the recap of the previous month.

Overall SITREP:

The situation has worsened for the Ukrainian defenders in May. The Russian army has opened a new front in the north, crossing the border into Kharkiv Oblast. They have also made gains in Donetsk Oblast, pushing Ukrainian forces further away from Avdiivka.

In response to the deteriorating conditions on the battlefield, the Ukrainian army was forced to deploy reserves that had been kept in the rear. Thanks to these additional reinforcements, the front has been stabilized.

Kharkiv axis

  • On May 10, 2024, Russian forces crossed the border and entered Kharkiv Oblast. They captured Strilecha, Pylna, Krasne, Morokhovets and Oliinykove on the first day.
  • On May 12, the enemy crossed the border near Vovchansk and captured Ohirtseve, Hatyshche, Borysivka and Pletenivka.
  • Russian troops entered Vovchansk on May 13, 2024. Heavy fighting for the city has been ongoing since then.
  • The enemy captured Lukyantsi and Buhrovatka settlements on May 14, 2024.
  • On May 15, 2024, the invasion forces capture Hlyboke.
  • Russian troops almost reached the town of Lyptsi in Kharkiv Oblast on May 17, 2024.
  • The enemy entered Starytsya settlement on May 30, 2024.

Avdiivka axis

  • Russian force captured Ocheretyne settlement no later than May 8, 2024.
  • The invasion forces advanced though a low ground, bypassed Ukrainian lines and captured Arkhanhelske on May 4. Ukrainian forces withdrew to avoid encirclement.
  • Russian troops advanced along the railway west of Ocheretyne and reached Novooleksandrivka on May 22, 2024.
  • The enemy gained more ground south of Ocheretyne settlement through the May.
  • Russian forces captured Umanske on May 9, 2024.
  • Russian troops reached the center of Netailove on May 11, and gained full control over the settlement on May 18, 2024.
  • The enemy advanced west of Netailove towards Karlivka.

Bakhmut axis

  • The enemy reached the southern part of Klishchiivka on May 21, 2024.

Kupyansk axis

  • The enemy captured the majority of Kyslivka settlement.
  • Russian forces seized nearby Kotlyarivka on May 5, 2024.

Novopavlivka axis

  • Russian troops advanced west of Novomykhailivka on May 4, and reached Paraskoviivka on May 19, 2024.
  • Russian forces hoisted a flag at the Refactory Plant in Krasnohorivka on May 4, and also entered eastern outskirts from the direction of Donetsk.

Velyka Novosilka

  • The enemy re-entered Staromayorske village, south of Velyka Novosilka, on May 22, 2024.

Orikhiv Axis

  • Russian forces captured Robotyne settlement on May 21, 2024.

Why Ukraine does not use maritime drones as a platform for launching other small aerial drones. If the boatdrone has a satellite connection, the operators can operate the aerial drones from a distance. The drone carrier 🙂
