Soldiers from the 1st Rifle Battalion of the 67th Mechanized Brigade, originally part of the core of the disbanded Ukrainian Volunteer Corps, have chosen to leave the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and join the National Guard. This decision was made to keep the fighters of the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps together. While the exact unit they formed or joined remains unclear, it is confirmed that they have established a separate Operational Assignment Group.

The 67th Mechanized Brigade was formed in 2022, based on the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps of Right Sector. In April 2024, it was revealed that military leadership had decided to disband the brigade’s core, reassign Right Sector members to various units, and launch investigations into several of its commanders. The decision sparked widespread speculation of underlying political motives.

The leadership of the Ukrainian National Guard appears to hold a different view from the Armed Forces command, as they have accepted the formation of a separate Right Sector unit within their ranks.
