Azov Brigade forms an international battalion

The brigade allows foreigners into its ranks.

On 23 December 2024, the 12th Special Purpose Brigade “Azov” of the Ukrainian National Guard announced across its social media pages the creation of a new International Battalion, which officially allows foreigners in its ranks.

The new international battalion’s Instagram page designates the unit as the 3rd International Battalion. In early May 2024, the 3rd Special Purpose Battalion of the brigade became inactive. The battalion stated it was undergoing “reformation,” with its soldiers continuing to form combat missions in other units of the brigade. It appears that the battalion has finally finished reformation, being designated for foreigners instead, resolving the mystery of what happened to the status of the 3rd Battalion.

The battalion also received a unique insignia: three swords crossed each other, surrounded by a wreath in a traditional Azov chevron.
