M-55S is a Slovenian upgrade of the Soviet T-55, developed to enhance its survivability and firepower for modern combat. Introduced in the late 1990s, it features improved armor, a NATO-standard 105mm gun, and an upgraded fire control system for better accuracy. The tank initially saw combat in the 2023 counter offensive where it sustained losses against Russian guided artillery and only again suffered losses in combat in Hulyiapole in 2026, illustrating their conservative use after their initial deployment and how changing conditions reintroduced the necessity of their use many years later.
