Офіційне представлення 9-го армійського корпусу
Українське командування показало свої знаки розрізнення та додаткові підрозділи, які входять до складу корпусу.
9-й армійський корпус нарешті офіційно представлений громадськості і більше не тримається в таємниці. Корпус отримав свої знаки розрізнення, які наші відвідувачі вже знають як ми виявив це ще в серпні 2023 року (тільки в поганій якості).
Крім того, офіційні представники повідомили, що наступні підрозділи також входять до складу 9-го армійського корпусу:
33-тя механізована бригада
Одна з бригад, оснащена переважно західною технікою. Наразі вона бере участь у південному наступі.
47-а артилерійська бригада
Перша відома артилерійська бригада корпусу. Бригада була сформована у жовтні 2022 року.
67-а механізована бригада
Бригада сформована на базі Добровольчого українського корпусу і є його частиною.
Таким чином, кількість з'єднань становить 11 - три механізовані бригади, по одній штурмовій, танковій, артилерійській та спеціального призначення, а також чотири частини тилу. Нагадаємо, що 9-й армійський корпус - це загальновійськовий корпус Сухопутних військ Збройних сил України. Підрозділ отримав військовий номер А4655 і вперше згадується в наказі Міністерства оборони України від 21 листопада 2022 року.

Can someone help me understand command structure of the army? There are Operational Commands, Strategic/Tactical Groupings of Troops, Tactical Groups and Army Corps. The Operational Commands are pre-war institutions, what are they doing now? Force generation? The Strategic/Tactical Groupings of Troops, Tactical Groups and Army Corps are war time structures but who is in charge?
Operational Commands – they take care of mobilization and rear stuff, zero influence on the front
Groupings – responsible for a certain part of the front, variable composition based on the deployment of units
Army Corps – unites brigades under a single command, fixed composition
Strategic Grouping -> Tactical Grouping -> Tactical Group/Corps
11 elements? (there was and still is ‘the rule of thumb’ that the command should not exceed 5-6 elements) Seems a lot to manage and can easily overburden any commander. I hope that is more conceptual than real development.

7 elements is ‘the rule of thumb’. There are exactly 7 combat brigades here. And this rule of seven is not absolute and everything depends on the size and capabilities of the headquarters.
in this case ‘the more the merrier’ doesn’t work. A lot of elements usually points onto lack of commanders and staffing problems (which was mentioned at least a few times). That is not surprising regarding situation, still – far from optimal. If you have in mind NATO staffing guidelines they can vary. There is a reason why US DoD decided t restore divisional commands.
