162nd Mechanized Brigade joins 9th Army Corps

The 162nd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces has been assigned to the 9th Army Corps, the brigade confirmed through its official social media channels.
The addition restores the corps to its standard structure, with four mechanized brigades, one heavy mechanized brigade, and an artillery brigade forming its main combat element. Since February 2026, the corps had been operating with only three mechanized brigades, one fewer than its typical establishment.
In February 2026, MilitaryLand reported that the 68th Jaeger Brigade had departed the 9th Army Corps after being reassigned to the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces. The brigade later became part of the 8th Air Assault Corps.
Throughout the past year and a half, since the launch of Ukraine’s corps-brigade reform in 2025, the 9th Army Corps has undergone a rapid transformation. New formations, including the 5th Heavy Mechanized Brigade, 32nd Mechanized Brigade and 153rd Mechanized Brigade, joined the corps during its expansion, followed later by the addition of the 55th Artillery Brigade and the 68th Jaeger Brigade.
The 162nd Mechanized Brigade was first identified in late October 2024 and first reported by MilitaryLand the following month. However, the brigade was not officially acknowledged until May 2025.
