5th Tank Brigade is a reserve tank brigade of Armed Forces of Ukraine, formed in 2016. The unit participated in numerous of exercises, mainly near the occupied Crimea, but was subsequently demobilized and remained only on paper.
In February 2022, the brigade was re-created in Kryvyi Rih to reinforce Ukrainian defense. However, due to losses in other armored and mechanized brigades, tanks and manpower were used to replenish already existing units and the brigade de-facto cease to exist again.
In March 2023, the brigade has been reactivated and is currently at the stage of formation. In July 2023, the unit received a new insignia, and later it became known that the brigade was assigned under the command of 10th Army Corps.
On January 2024, official Facebook account revealed the brigade celebrated its first anniversary, indicating the unit is a new formation, not a continuation of the previous 5th Tank Brigade of the Reserve Corps.
