93rd Mechanized Brigade

93rd Mechanized Brigade is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. Its roots trace back to 1991 when the Soviet 93rd Motorized Division was relocated from Hungary to Cherkaske. Following the Soviet Union’s dissolution in 1992, the 93rd Mechanized Division was established on its foundation and later restructured into a mechanized brigade in 2002. In March 2014, the brigade was among the first units deployed to defend Ukraine’s border in Luhansk Oblast. It gained recognition for liberating the village of Pisky and defending Donetsk Airport. The brigade also took part in the battles of Ilovaysk and Debaltseve. On the eve of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, the unit was deployed to defend Poltava and the surrounding northern areas before being relocated to eastern Kharkiv Oblast. On January 19, 2023, the brigade assumed responsibility for the defense of the city of Bakhmut.
